SELF HELP BOOKS* SCHEMA THERAPY * FEE'S * ADD YOUR SITE Cognitive Behavioural Therapy I offer two approaches in cognitive behavioural therapy depending on the severity of the illness and the length of time that the illness has been ongoing. Standard cognitive behavioural therapy would be suitable for mild to moderate illness which is not recurrent and has not being going on for a long period of time. Schema focused cognitive behavioural therapy is for recurrent, chronic illness which has been persistent over a number of years. Standard cognitive behavioural therapy Research on cognitive behavioural therapy has been carried out extensively and is now recognized as one of the most effective forms of psychotherapy. Cognitive behavioural psychotherapy (cbt), is based on the knowledge that many of our psychological problems are caused and maintained by our own unhelpful beliefs and our underlying assumptions about others and ourselves. These beliefs and underlying assumptions are learned through our past experiences and interactions with significant others around us. At the time we learned them, they may have helped us cope with our experiences. Now, however, they may no longer be helpful and often hinder our effective functioning. Treatment is based on the understanding of each clients individual problems. The therapist and client will then work together to identify goals and to agree with a shared treatment plan. The focus of cognitive therapy is mainly on the here and now rather than the past. The aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to enable the client to generate solutions to their problems that are more helpful than their present ways of coping. Schema focused cognitive behavioural therapy Schema focused cognitive behavioural therapy has been developed over 30 years specifically for treating more chronic lifelong problems such as chronic anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties. It has been acknowledged by the founder of cognitive behavioural therapy Aaron Beck that standard cbt techniques alone will not suffice in treating such chronic conditions. Therefore two of his students Jeffrey Young, Ph.D and Janet Klosko, Ph.D have developed Schema Therapy in order to treat these chronic conditions using cognitive, behavioural, psychoanalytical and experiential therapies whilst keeping the practical, problem solving focus of cognitive therapy. Schema therapy an enlightening experience, it allows you to develop yourself personally, enables you to finally break free from self defeating beliefs and behaviours and is life changing. It is an advanced, deeper form of psychological therapy which enables you to understand your own personality and why you behave in the way you do.
